Payment & Earnings

Scribie pays minimum $5 for every hour of transcribing, means if you transcribe 1 hour of audio clips you will get $5. Certification Process

1. Application Submission: You'll be required to submit your application through apply and you'll be given an application number, through which you can track your status.

2. Email Confirmation: You'll need to verify your email address once like you've done for other sites previously by clicking on link in the email you'll get from Scribie. 

3. Wait List Allocation: It usually takes 1 day to review your application. But in most cases you'll get a response within a day if your application is accepted or rejected. If rejected, no need to worry because you can re-apply after deleting your previous application.
If you application is accepted you will be required to give a test and added to the waiting list for the test. You can track your waiting list number with your application number from the Apply tab. The estimated waiting period is 1 day.

4. Test Invitation: You will get an invite to take the test through email. Visiting the link in the mail you'll be prompted to create an account on Scribie.com. 

5. Test File Submission: After login to your account, a list of test files will be displayed. You have to transcribe any one file from the list and submit the transcript. You can preview the file before selecting it to understand the accent and difficulty level. Once you select the file transcribe it carefully and submit it within 2 hours. 

6. Certification: When your submission is accepted for review, a review-by date will be assigned for the file. Depending upon the results of the review you will either be certified as a transcriber (and paid for the test file) or rejected. If rejected, you may compare the differences between your submission and the reviewed file, enable re-test and submit another test file. The total number attempts is 10. 

After you got certified, you can start working on Scribie.com by selecting files you want to transcribe from the list. All the files are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and assigned to the first person who selects them. You can also select multiple files at a time but you can transcribe one file at a time. The assignments need to be submitted within 2 hours. And there are no penalties for cancellation of assignments or timeouts.

Transcription Process

The transcription process consists of 5 steps.

1. File Splitting:  All the audio files are split into 6 minute intervals or less.

2. Raw Transcription: In this step, all the parts of file are played back and transcribed as correctly as possible and those parts which are incomprehensible are marked with blanks.

3. Review: In this step, The correctness and quality of the Raw Transcript is checked. Each transcribed word is checked against the audio.

4. Proofreading:  All part files are collated together in this step and the combined transcript is checked against the audio once more.

5. Quality Check: In the final step, the quality of transcript is checked again and either delivered to the customer or  go to proofread again.

Payments

You can from this online job $5 to $20 per audio hour. That means you'll be paid by audio hour and not the actual time spent working on it. The payment for 6 minute file therefore can vary from $0.5 to $2.00.

After submitting your files, your submission is reviewed and your earnings are credited to your Scribie.com account. It can be withdrawn to your PayPal account anytime. You'll be required to submit a withdrawal request each time you want to withdraw money from Scribie.com. There is no minimum withdrawal limit. The funds will be sent to your PayPal account in 1 business day. Please remember if you request a payout which is less than $30 you'll be charged 2% fee.

There is a monthly bonus of $5 for every 3 hours audio clips transcription completed each month.

Referral & Affiliate Program

There is also a referral program that you can utilise to increase your earnings. You'll get 2.5% referral commission on the direct earnings of all the referred transcribers. There is no limit of number of referrals you can refer to.

Grades & Promotions

Scribie follows a grading system to track your performance. 
You may be promoted as a Reviewer after 1 audio hour of raw transcript submissions have been reviewed and your average grade is above 3.25. As a reviewer you can review Raw Transcript's submitted by other certified transcribers and grade them. You may be further promoted as a Self-Reviewer once 10 review submissions have been verified and your average grade maintained above 3.25. As a Self-reviewer you can select a Raw Transcript assignment, submit it, select the same file for Review and submit the reviewed file. Self-reviewing effectively doubles your payment rate as you are paid twice for the same file.

Conversely, if your average grade falls below 3 you will not be able to select any files. However, your account will remain active and you can still accrue Referral and Affiliate commissions, if any.

Further, if you are able to improve your average grade after self-reviews have been enabled, you may be also promoted to a Proofreader. Proofreading files are generally longer and the payment depends on the duration, accents, difficulty level etc.

Your earnings on Scribie.com depends on your accuracy and ability to finish the work as fast you can finish. As a transcriber you can earn $200 - $300 weekly if you work 24 hours in a week.
